Bears Perth acknowledges the Whadjuk Noongar people as the Traditional Owners of Boorloo, on which we gather near Derbal Yerrigan. We pay our respects to Noongar Elders past and present, and we recognise the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country, culture, and community.
Our First Nations members
We acknowledge and honour the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members of Bears Perth, and the strength and resilience of First Nations LGBTQIA+ peoples — Sistergirls, Brotherboys, and queer mob — whose voices and identities hold a vital place in both our club and the oldest living culture in the world.
Where we gather
Our home is Loton Park Tennis Club in Boorloo, on Whadjuk Noongar boodja. The Derbal Yerrigan — the river the city grew around — has been a place of meeting, ceremony and living culture for tens of thousands of years, and remains so today.
What this means in practice
An acknowledgement is a starting point, not an achievement. Bears Perth is committed to being a club where First Nations members are visible, welcome and heard — in our events, in our committee, and in how we run ourselves.
